- In this paper, we describe a content-based multimedia retrieval system that allows users to iteratively browse and search desired information in an integrated database of images, video, and text within a unified visual interface. Images and video segments are annotated with captions and transcripts respectively. With a single query, users can retrieve specific images, video segments, and text. The retrieval engine uses grammatical information from the text to retrieve relevant multimedia information based on the content. We found that precision and recall of retrieval increased in certain circumstances. Furthermore, we have designed a visual interface that displays as much retrieved information as possible. We utilize a high resolution display to present both the title and the content of images, video, or text using two visual methods: translucency and visual accent. We argue that our technique will improve the quality of the multimedia information retrieval.
